We wouldn't blame FTAI Aviation Ltd. (NASDAQ:FTAI) shareholders if they were a little worried about the fact that Paul Goodwin, the Independent Director recently netted about US$3.5m selling shares at an average price of US$174. That's a big disposal, and it decreased their holding size by 18%, which is notable but not too bad.
The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At FTAI Aviation
The Chairman & CEO Joseph Adams made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$4.8m worth of shares at a price of US$82.00 each. We do like to see buying, but this purchase was made at well below the current price of US$165. Because it occurred at a lower valuation, it doesn't tell us much about whether insiders might find today's price attractive.

Insider Ownership Of FTAI Aviation
I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. FTAI Aviation insiders own 1.4% of the company, currently worth about US$241m based on the recent share price. This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.

An insider sold FTAI Aviation shares recently, but they didn't buy any. But we take heart from prior transactions. We are also comforted by the high levels of insider ownership. So we're not too bothered by recent selling. So while it's helpful to know what insiders are doing in terms of buying or selling, it's also helpful to know the risks that a particular company is facing.
