RH (NYSE:RH) shareholders (or potential shareholders) will be happy to see that the Chairman & CEO, Gary Friedman, recently bought a whopping US$10.0m worth of stock, at a price of US$216. There's no denying a buy of that magnitude suggests conviction in a brighter future, although we do note that proportionally it only increased their holding by 1.4%.

RH Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Notably, that recent purchase by Gary Friedman is the biggest insider purchase of RH shares that we've seen in the last year. We do like to see buying, but this purchase was made at well below the current price of US$244. Because it occurred at a lower valuation, it doesn't tell us much about whether insiders might find today's price attractive.

Insider Ownership

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. It's great to see that RH insiders own 19% of the company, worth about US$822m. This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.
