Live: Media figure Amr Adeeb said that the perpetrator of the Christmas market ramming attack in the German city of Magdeburg is a "Saudi defector."
He wrote in a post on his official page on the “X” platform, this Saturday morning: “The perpetrator of the Germany run-over attack is a Saudi dissident, so they respond in the West with a Saudi, so we respond with a dissident... and the Saudi administration has warned against him more than once.”
A person and a young child were killed at a Christmas market in the German city of Magdeburg on Friday when a car ploughed into a crowd.
Authorities said at least 15 people were seriously injured, and 68 people in total were injured.
Magdeburg is the capital of the state of Saxony-Anhalt and is located about 100 miles west of Berlin.
German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said that security authorities are working to clarify the details surrounding the attack.
The suspected driver, who was arrested, is a 50-year-old man from Saudi Arabia who has a permanent residence permit, Saxony-Anhalt Interior Minister Tamara Zitschang told reporters.
State Governor Rainer Haseloff said the suspect was a doctor working in the state and had been living in Germany since 2006, adding that initial information suggested he acted alone.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's condemnation of the run-over incident that occurred in a market in the city of Magdeburg in the Federal Republic of Germany, which resulted in the death and injury of a number of people, expressing its solidarity with the German people and the families of the victims.
The Kingdom affirmed its position in rejecting violence, and expressed its sympathy and sincere condolences to the families of the deceased and to the Federal Republic of Germany, government and people, with its wishes for a speedy recovery for the injured, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
Egypt, represented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also condemned the incident, stressing its denunciation of all forms of violence and terrorism.
