Saudi Arabia achieves remarkable growth in air traffic with increased air capacity

Riyadh - Mubasher: OAG, a company specializing in air transport data, announced the busiest flight routes in the world, indicating that Saudi Arabia witnessed a significant increase in air traffic, with the flight route between Cairo and Jeddah ranking second globally.
The number of seats available on this route reached about 5.5 million seats annually, an increase of 62% over 2019 levels. The flight route between Dubai and Riyadh also ranked third globally, with the airline providing more than 4.3 million seats annually .
In terms of international flight routes in general, the flight route between Hong Kong and Taiwanese Taipei topped the list of the busiest routes, returning to the first place after a five-year absence.
However, seat capacity on this route has not reached pre-Covid-19 levels, having fallen by 15 %.
The report revealed that the Asia-Pacific region dominated the list of the busiest routes, recording seven of the top ten routes worldwide. Despite significant growth on some Asian routes, many of these lines have not regained the same capacity as they were before the pandemic .
On the other hand, flight routes coming from the Middle East have achieved significant growth, with a significant increase in the number of available seats since 2019, while the flight route between Seoul and Tokyo has seen a 68% increase in capacity compared to pre-pandemic levels .
Globally, the New York-London route, the only one connecting North America and Europe, saw capacity increase by 3%, to around 4 million seats annually .
Overall, the report reveals that the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the international aviation market continues, with a significant recovery observed in some regions, particularly the Middle East and Asia .
